Posts: 6405 (25/06/09 07:05) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Tags : None Brooklands are currently putting together a few options to sell experiences where people can come and fly the simulator, alongside a Concorde pilot, for 15 minutes. 15 minus is roughly enough time for a circuit in and out of Heathrow and a 2nd attempt at landing, by repositioning the aircraft back onto final approach. This type of experiences is possibly on a par with driving a Ferrari around Silverstone for 15 minutes, which sells for over £100, so how much would the enthusiast pay to fly Concorde? What is the price you would pay to fly the Concorde sim for 15mins (Result) Over £150 £100-£150 £50-£100 Under £50

I'm sure there will be people around, who'd be willing to pay good money for a 15-minute flight with a Concorde pilot, but who (like myself) are not inveterate flight simmers. I'd expect I'd "waste" most of my 15 minutes re-familiarising myself with the panels, getting a feel for the controls, and looking out of the window for landmarks... Has any thought been given to having a PC running FS somewhere on the premises, where the future "pilot" could spend a quarter of an hour "stooging" around, before walking into the real 'experience'? CJ

CJ Thats a good point, but the idea would be that people would fly in groups of 4 (strangers or friends) so the people less familiar would be able to have their turn nearer the end. We ran a test last week with a small group of people, none of who were flight simmers, and none of whom were pilots......75% put it on the tarmac!

Posts: 1278 (25/06/09 16:56) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Before voting, people should bear in mind how much it would cost to fly an airliner simulator at one of the other sites around the country that offer such an experience. The cheapest I've found is £150 for 20 minutes at the controls of a 737. The prices of some of the experiences actually go up to nearly £2000!! OK, so the Concorde sim isn't full motion like these others, but then again, you are getting personal tuition from a former Concorde pilot at Brooklands.

It wouldn't be something you would forget in a hurry even if you're not very good! I still have the pic of Mike Bannister & me after our flight in the office

A lot of the People I know who are spotters still and Photographers have always wanted to fly on Concorde and the Sim is the next best thing.since they couldnt do it for real. We will se what happens

I would think the 'experience' is not really aimed fully at people who have F1 track (or racing track) experience and people who've already "flown" a full motion sim. Think people with just a PPL. Think pure "flight-simmer" enthusiasts. Think ancients like me, who's last serious sim experience was the Filton development sim more than thirty years ago. CJ

Just think you will be flying an actual -real- Concorde sim, the same sim the BA Concorde pilots used for training none the less you will have a genuine Concorde Pilot with you! Their time is invaluable. It is really nice of them to donate some of it to the Brooklands Museum Concorde sim experience. If this is what they charge at Silverstone to drive around the track the same cost should be applied at Brooklands for flying the sim wth a Concorde pilot. Now you can hire a Ferrari for a drive around Monaco for less than that but you won't be on a race track. You will be stuck in the traffic with everybody else and no resident Formula 1 champion willl be provided. *** Faire du ciel le plus bel endroit de la terre c'est impossible sans Concorde

Again, wasn't a full motion one or fully enclosed but it was pretty good - and I landed it first go ( still have the printout as proof! ). Based on that, given that the Concorde one is more enclosed it should be a much better experience even without the motion.

I read the topic but figured that since I have never been to Brooklands at all (more due to the logistics of where it is than anything else), and also because if I DO make it I'd be likely to willing to pay a bit more than if I lived in the area and could visit more often, it would be better if I didn't vote.

What concerns me is that there are not that many ex-Concorde pilots about to cover all the slots that might be sold. Are they on a commission? Surely they won't give up stacks of time for free to help run the Sim project. Don't forget they stand in for God on occasion and are very busy people!!

Posts: 415 (08/07/09 22:38) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	I'de love to do that but im on a very low budget so i would struggle to pay any more than £100, and i would hope that would include admision to the museum as well, i think i would have a good chance of flying and landing her as i can on my just flight concorde flight sim, i can even do the engine start up! dunno how realistic it is but i can do it! plus ive logged about 1 hour 30 mins in a real chipmunk, heck that should qualify me for a PPL shouldnt it!

Sorry I haven't been in touch much of late; crap personal circumstances. You will recall, thanks to you, I was able to do an experience such as this at the end of last year, with Chris Orlebar in the second seat - no pressure then! And thanks for that by the way, it was amazing. What occurs to me is that it is not quite the same as, say, driving a Ferrari, as it is virtual. I'd humbly suggest a price tag below £50 would work best and produce higher marginal revenue. Fred Edit: Of course, 'specials', like doing it with Chris, would be worth a hell of a lot more. The idea at the moment is there will be 2 packages, each marketed with a Concorde captain as your host. The premium package will allow you to have a meal with the Captain then spend at least 30 minutes flying the simulator with them. There is scope in the longer term to offer a cheeper non-Concorde captain package, but for the moment the higher value packages are aligned with other experiences such as driving around Silverstone in a Ferrari.

To ride in the Lanc 'Just Jane' at East Kirby costs £200. There is also a 'VIP' one at £270 which includes dinner with the crew. There is a long waiting list. mmitch.
