Cost per Concorde |

I read that each Concorde cost 23 million pounds in 1977. Is that correct? What would that be in todays' money? That cost seems pretty reasonable to me. It
was the cost to develop that cost billions.

Shulman add a 1 onto the Front for Modern Cost per Each so £123+ Million Poundseach In Modern Day Money.about the Same as the Now out of Production 747-400
would cost.

Working for a company that caluclates budgets based on projections I can tell you this: 23 million of what ever denomination is nothing to compared what it
cost the British and French government to develope the aircraft. If you took the amount it costs to develope it, divided by the number of aircraft actually
produced, than each aircraft would had cost well over a billion pounds easily.

marklinguy,
Stick to your train sets, and don't try to teach your grandmother to suck eggs. The development costs were not twenty billion pounds, whichever way you calculate it. "Working for a company that caluclates budgets based on projections...." Let us know which one, so we can avoid it like the plague. Especially since they seem to hire people who can't even spell... so their maths is bound to be equally dodgy. CJ |

Could be Network Rail or any of the TOCs...? I do wonder myself, though, what the Concorde development costs would translate to if it was in today's money? |

If you are so smart like you think you are........what is the answer? I know you know nothing about the Concorde and it's history. That is a fact!

marklinguy wrote:Hi marklinguy nobody knows for sure how much it cost to develope Concorde, as there was a lot of Smoke & Mirror's Accountancy on both sides [France and England]. The figures I heard was roughly one and a half billion when it was developed which is equal to about eleven billions in todays money. The reason the British Goverment put up with the costs was because it was a way of the UK gaining entrance in to the Common Market. Hope this helps to answer your question Regards |

Not to mention that clause in the contract, inserted by Julian Amery, which effectively locked both sides in. It was put there because the Brits thought the
French would try to renaig on the contract. They might, but the Brits, especially the Wilson government, would have loved to have cancelled it (Tony Benn was,
however, a voice in support for the project in that government. Filton was in his constituency!).

Maybe "Mr. Knowall from Seattle" should be reminded how much Boeing spent on one design with zero payload, one design that never came off the drawing
board, a pretty wooden mockup, a few test articles, and a hangar full of useless drawings?
Yes, quite... pretty well the same amount as was spent to design the Concorde aircraft (proto, prepod and prod), and build two prototypes and two preprod aircraft, and fly the prototypes. Thanks, hoo, I'll have one too...

Is this a good time to say that my post was in answer to Christiaan's post asking which companies make their budgets on the basis of pure guesswork and was
in no way having a go at Marklinguy ?

My use of smileys was directed at Marklinguy, not at you, as he definitely seemed to be having a go at Christiaan.

Perhaps.
Either way, I was just intending to watch the fun.
