Once it's in place, I DO wonder if anybody of the "non-spotter" travelling public driving past will note the difference between a Hippo and a
Jumbo....

When waiting for Air Force 1 to arrive i watched a 380 of Singapore depart and was not impressed as it was far to Quiet I would expect somthing that big to
make a Decent amount of Noise anouncing it"s self to the World but it was Drouned out by a 747 of Malaysian which was waiting to depart behind it
It was ignored by every one the Singapore Whale Jet that is and when the Malaysian 744 rolled away it was beeing watched by almost every one enjoying the Sound of a JUMBO a Cherrished old Freind evey one beeing Spotters and Non Spotters alike. Unlike this young upstart the Whale Jet.

It's only the enthusiasts that like all the noise, I for one loved the sound of Concorde, but for the people that have to live with the constant noise of
older aircraft it can be quite a different matter. The Rolls Royce A380 is remarkably quiet, a great tribite to the british engineers who have developed the
Trent engine. The Alliance engined A380 that visited Filton for tests was not so quiet as the RR powered aircraft. When the next generation of engines are
around you will not be able to hear them outside of the airport boundary, well that is the target.

The 124 is an older generation Aircraft with Russian Big Turbo Fanns that make a 747 size amount of Noise but it is somthing we will loose in the futture as
more and more of the older machines"s go to the Bine yards and meet the Breaker"s.
At least if you Visit Russia it is like going back to the 1980s with Hundreds of Rearly Lound and Interesting machines Roaring and Smoking all over the Place.

I'm curious about the size of this model A380. I think we established that it was a former wind-tunnel model so presumably it is just one piece to require
the AN-124 to carry it. How big is their wind-tunnel? G-CONC was 40% original size which makes it around 80ft long but the wings were removable (with a saw?).
Presumably Emirates didn't want to cut the A380 model. Is it too big for a Beluga? They should have fun getting it to the "Emirates"
roundabout...

I have read that the model is rather Large in the region of a 737 so it has to be Air Deliverd.
They Posted it would arrive on the 225 but a Source has said it will arive on a 124. so I coreected the text below. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Saqn Bernadino SUN News Paper US . Rancho firm works on model Airbus A380 Wendy Leung, Staff Writer Article Launched: 06/15/2008 08:40:52 PM PDT RANCHO CUCAMONGA - There's an 80-foot-long Airbus A380 being built on a shady street in the city's office corridor. In recent weeks, a group of 30 or so workers sanded and painted this steel and fiberglass model, preparing it for its trip to London's Heathrow Airport. When completed, there won't be any windows or seats and the engines won't work. That's because this Airbus made by Penwal Industries is just a model. But at one-third the size of the actual aircraft, the replica has a wing span of 88 feet and is the size of a Boeing 737. Tucked away on tiny Acacia Street, Penwal Industries has been fabricating large scale projects for museums, retailers, amusement parks and other customers for nearly three decades. For this project, Emirates Airlines wanted the model plane to be on display at an airport roundabout for advertising purposes. The current outdoor site has remained empty since a Concorde replica was removed. Based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, the airline is the world's seventh largest. According to Diane Bader of Penwal Industries, the model A380 will be finished by the end of the month and transported to London via LA/Ontario International Airport. Because the model plane will still be huge at one-third scale, Penwal is building it in three sections so it can fit inside an Antonov An 124, the world's second largest aircraft. "It's almost like a puzzle," Bader said. "We'll have to take the puzzle apart so we can put it back together." Heathrow is the busiest airport in the world catering to more than 67 million passengers every year. On a recent afternoon, workers at Penwal's 61,000-square- foot facility, who have been working on this project since February, were prepping the plane for a labor intensive paint job. The plane dwarfed other current projects at the company but the A380 falls short of Penwal's biggest work - a full-scale Saturn V rocket which stands 365 feet tall and weighs 600 tons. The model is displayed in Huntsville, Ala., home to NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center. The A380 is scheduled to leave Ontario on July 3. Once in London, it will take a week to assemble. |

"It's only the enthusiasts that like all the noise, I for one loved the sound of Concorde, but for the people that have to live with the constant
noise of older aircraft it can be quite a different matter."
The people I don't understand are the ones who move to a house located near an airport and then complain about the noise. The people in Crystal City, Virginia, constantly complain about aircraft noise from DCA and they've been campaigning to close the airport for years. Yet the airport has been there since 1941, so I'd be very surprised if there are many people living there who lived there prior to the airport opening. I can certainly understand local residents trying to prevent additional flights from being added since that adds more noise, and I can understand pushing for restrictions on flight paths and on what sort of aircraft can use an airport, but it seems to me that people who move near an airport are "coming to the nuisance"-they knew the airport was there, yet they moved there anyway, so I don't have much sympathy for complaints. Obviously I'd be more sympathetic to people who don't live all that close to a noise-generating facility but then, due to expansion or relocation or a change in flight patterns or whatever, wind up dealing with a sudden onslaught of new noise. If memory serves, I think that argument is going on again with respect to Heathrow expansion, correct? |

I want to hijack the flight that will carry the fake A380 to LHR!
I don't want to see that thing in Emirates colours at the roundabout. It will be ugly as hell.

I just looked at Project Oxcart's post again and noted that the model is being built in Rancho Cucamonga. I don't know whether any of you listen to the
Grateful Dead, but does this mean that the model is the "Pride of Cucamonga"?
