I thought they were doing the onboard tours. When did that stop or did it ever happen?
A friend of mine, a schoolteacher, wanted to bring her class there for a field trip. She called and the visits are no longer.
Anyone hear of this?

No onboard visits to G-Boad? |

I've known about G-BAOD at Floyd Bennett, even got some photos and an aerial photo of her a few times.

Lets just say with heignsight it look like it turned out to be a bit of a bad call for them to try to run an Aircraft as an attraction at a sports centre.
She will be back at Intrepid, under the care of thier new aircraft curator, in the fall. |

"Let's just say, with hindsight, it looks like it turned out to be a bit of a bad call for them to try to run an Aircraft as an attraction at a sports centre." Let's say, also, that at least they found a place that she could be moved to without having to chop off bits. Let's hope the new aircraft curator will take care of the cracked window and the missing hoist point covers. The latter bothers me, because it lets rain into the structure just above the main gear. The new aircraft curator will have his/her hands full anyway.... From what I read from visitors to the Intrepid, some of the other aircraft on board were in a pretty sorry state, too. |

G-BOAD Only Open During Summer | ||
|
It seems that G-BOAD was only open during the summer months of 2007 for tours. Aviator Sports set-up tables and chairs about the aircraft. Anybody purchasing a
$2 beverage was allowed to board Concorde. It was a self-guided tour as far as I know. Also, it wasn't open every day but usually only on weekends from
noon to 1700. When I returned to go onboard, she was gated-up. I passed the pier where the Concorde will be kept by the Hudson and there is now no pier: they
are still putting in pilings. How construction will be complete by this fall is a real mystery. I passed the non-existent pier going to visit the QE 2 and the
new Queen Victoria; it was awesome.

the pilings will probably be 75% of the work. Once they are on you bolt the new structure onto the top

See above. The question is whether they will move 'AD also this autumn, or whther they'll wait until spring 2009. "Once back at the Intrepid, who will pay to repair the damage? Where will they find the money?" Considering the cost of the Intrepid overhaul itself... or even the cost of moving 'AD back to the new museum.... the repair of the visor window (windows?) will be peanuts. I would think, that the question is more whether they will be able to get hold of original spares, or whether they will have to make do with substitutes. Christian |
